I commend this Handbook as a great resource for anyone seeking the least toxic way to build, renovate or live in a home or apartment, so that is everybody.
The authors cover basic, major topics often left out of how-to’s, for example, which foundation, construction and insulation materials are the safest, as well as indoor choices such as cabinetry and furnishings.
While the handbook often talks about how non-toxic choices will help all of us, especially people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, its sound advice will particularly result in protecting the most vulnerable -children — from toxic harm.

This book is tremendously useful for anyone trying to determine whether chemical sensitivities to indoor pollutants in the home are making them sick and, if so, what alternative solutions are available. It’s quite comprehensive, but also concise. The authors come by their expertise through personal experience - this gives the book credibility. In my profession I frequently write educational content about the health effects of various chemicals used around the home. I am happy to have this book as reference material for my work as well as for my personal health. The Healthy House Answer Book is easy to navigate and easy to understand. And….easy to afford!

The Healthy House Answer Book is a tiny volume that packs a huge punch. Although small in stature, this book has much to offer on an extremely important subject. It reads well — very well indeed! — and offers simple, accurate explanations of many complicated topics.
In the Healthy House Answer Book, the authors — healthy home experts, John and Lynn Bower — tackle 133 commonly asked questions. Don’t be fooled by this book’s brevity, though. If you’re new to the subject, this book should be a fantastic resource. I know, I read it early in my research on healthy homes for my books on natural homes and passive solar heating and cooling and felt that it brought me up to speed on the topic quite rapidly.
I especially liked the question-answer format and found it to be a delightful respite from the typical book style. The authors get right to the point. No wasted words!
Unless you’re looking for an encyclopedic treatment of the subject, you should find this book to be a goldmine of valuable information. If you want a more encyclopedic treatment, the Bowers offer that option, too, in some of their other books.
3 Stars The Future is Sustaianble Architecture
It is an extremely interesting volume… of iummense use… to Built-Design professionals as well as amateurs. But personally speaking, it is not the amateurs, but the professional built-design professionals, who have to be bull-dozed into accepting green architecture. Probably the most worthwhile fitness video I have purchased in years! Clear instructions and uncomplicated moves make it easy to follow along even though the workout is tough! I moved from Level 1 to 2 in two weeks of training every other day. Had I done every day, I probably would have progressed faster. Results are there! Thanks Jillian!!
5 Stars perfect alternative to a gym membership
I once met a trainer who told me that before getting into personal training she never went to a gym. She did all her workouts at home. This rang true for me because unless you want to be a body building champion, workout equipment at gyms is irrelevant for most of us. Since then I began a search for the perfect at home workout that I could substitute a gym membership with. As a busy person, who isn’t in New York City?, this perfect workout had to be done in under an hour. I have compiled a pretty good library of short-format workouts spanning strength training to pilates to yoga. Although some of these are excellent and accomplish what they set out to do, they always required additional components in order to achieve full-body balance. What’s great about Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is that you could stick with this as your only workout for a while and achieve a healthy, toned physique. The only thing I do aside from this is yoga and it’s because I love it and get benefits beyond the physical from it. But, if you’re mostly searching for a complete strength training/cardio/abs combination, you cannot go wrong with this DVD.
(P.S.: this is my first review for an amazon product - ever - I’ve been purchasing from the site and enjoying other people’s reviews since 1997.)
5 Stars Tough & effective
This was my first exposure to Jillian Michaels. I consider myself in pretty good shape and workout regularly on the treadmill; my attitude going in was that level one would be a bore and level two might also be “too easy” for me….ha ha.
Well, I was surprised and humbled to find even the first level of her workout tough….
This is not Jane Fonda (for those who remember her videos!)…no water breaks here! But when Jillian says you’ll feel more stamina as early as day one, she’s right.
The intense cardio-strength combination is a lot different from a treadmill or rowing machine workout, with much to offer regardless of fitness level. It’s a huge bonus that the routine is fast, easy to follow, and takes up almost no space.
Beginners will be inspired and experienced exercisers will not be disappointed with the results.
Highly recommended!

So glad I bought this dvd. All you need is a light set of dumbbells and avery small space in your living room. I can definitely tell a difference. Highly recommend it!

I consider myself in pretty athletic shape and this video was still a challenge. She really gets a great workout in 20 minutes! I couldn’t be happier because I now have a back up plan for those days I can’t make it to the gym or don’t have a whole heck of a lot of time to invest in my workout. I love that she is not cheesy like some can be! This video works all parts…arms, abs, legs…I love it!
